Mrs. Regina Isabel Akai-Nettey(Maj. Rtd) was before the establishment of the foundation the Project Directors (Senior Technical Advisor) for the Supportive Technical Assistance for Revitalizing CHPS(STAR CHPS) project and the US Department of Defense/Ghana Armed Forces/Jhpiego HIV/AIDS Projects. Prior to joining Jhpiego she was the Malaria Case Management Training/Quality Improvement Advisor, USAID/ProMPT-Ghana Project. She is a clinical and social development management person with over 35 years’ experience managing Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS interventions. She specializes in Public Health and Reproductive Health with special emphasis on Prevention of Communicable and Non Communicable diseases including Malaria, HIV Counseling, Family Planning, and HIV/AIDS. Other specialization includes Safe Motherhood, Maternal and Child Health including Nutrition interventions, Post Abortion Care, Adolescent Friendly Services for Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Advocacy in ensuring that projects are well managed according to set goals and objectives in accomplishing desired results. She has been working as a Public Health/Reproductive Health Specialist and Manager for the past 37 years. She has worked with several international organisations including: Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana, (PPAG) an affiliate of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Family Health International (FHI), Engender Health International, University Research Company (URC), Jhpiego an affiliate of John Hopkins University. She has been instrumental in starting and closing four projects within the said period.
She was a professional Military Officer for eighteen years. Her working experience has exposed her to almost all the regions in the country and in most of the countries in West and Eastern Africa. Mrs. Akai-Nettey is qualified as a State Registered Public Health Nurse, as a State Registered Midwife, State Registered Nurse, and as a Family Planning Officer. She has been a team member in the development of various national policies and guidelines on Reproductive Health including Family Planning and HIV/AIDS. She won an international award in FP (1993) which was organised by Organon International, Netherlands. She holds an MA in Family Planning Program Management and Evaluation from the Institute of Population Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK.
After nineteen years of actively working with international organisations to support with the improvement of the health services in Ghana and selected countries in West Africa she deemed it significant to retire and establish the Health Crescendos Foundation in August 2016. A local non for profit organization with the sole aim of continuing to support and improve the health status of the people of Ghana, build the capacity of health staff to improve the quality of services and strengthen health systems with effective linkages.The ultimate goal is to improve the health status of Ghanaians.
